Honorary President - James Cameron

James Cameron joined Erskine Golf Club in 1950, aged 12 where his father, two uncles and grandfather were members. It was difficult in those days to get into a golf club unless you had a family connection. The Junior section was very small with only about 12 playing members.
In1953 the first British Youths Championship was held at Erskine which James played in, without distinction.
He was called up for National Service from 1956/58 and returned to Erskine as a Senior member.
On the playing side his lowest handicap was 4. and he played in Club matches and a few Newton Shield matches. He also played in The Pro/Ams at Erskine and qualified for the Club Championship a few times but never got past the first round.
In the mid sixties he won the T.C.Scott trophy, a foursomes competition along with his cousin. In the nineties he won the Winter League with Ian Riddell.
In 1989 he presented The Cameron Trophy to the club which is awarded to the leading qualifier in the Club Championship.
In 1966 he became Member of the Board for 3 years and then again in the mid seventies he had another spell on the Board serving as M/H Convenor for 4 years. Finally in 1987/8 he was appointed Captain of the club. Then again in 2003 he was appointed Captain of the Past Captains Society which is still very active today with golf, dinners, meetings and in general support of the club.
James was appointed Honorary President in 2020 a position he was very proud to accept, and has now completed 75 years as a member of Erskine, one of our longest serving members. After golfing for over 60 years he had almost given up on getting a hole in one, however in 2010 two came along at Erskine , firstly at the 11th, then the 6th, a few months later. So, he finally made it!

Honorary Vice President - Alan Baird

Alan Baird joined Erskine Golf Club in 1973 on his return from an extended work trip to the USA with IBM. He was Captain of the club in 1994 and then again in 2001, being only one of 2 members to have the exclusive honour of being Captain twice, the other being Duncan MacGregor in 1988 and 2004. Alan and his wife Ann (now deceased) were always great supporters of  championships and events at Erskine. Although no longer golfing, Alan is still a regular at Club Championships and lunches at the club.
